The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is particularly useful for doors with narrower openings where the cylinder is situated further back in the door. Lever Pad
A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently from lever-type handles that are found on the majority of doors. These handle types are either operated by a single spindle or by two spindles, either inline or offset. They are commonly used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a range of finishes & variations.
The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in several finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with the best performance and long-lasting durability for its intended purpose.
All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles are supplied with a spindle and screws which allow them to be fitted on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm permit a bigger handle, which can often be a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with a spring, which solves the issue of handles for doors that slide out of their horizontal position when not being used.
When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is important to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often referred to as the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres and is an essential aspect of matching up the right handles.
Once you have the proper PZ size you will then need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you require for your doors. Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case which is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body, allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is vital. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, doors that are external must be secured with a higher security cylinder, while doors inside can be secured using a standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can increase security, for instance, anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is essential to make sure it's not too long.
The design of most newer cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This can help to deflect an attack and protect your door.
Certain cylinders are constructed to resist snapping. This is an increasingly common kind of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is targeted with a special tool to snap off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is a faster and easier way to gain access than through the use of a multipoint locking system. upvc door handles leaves less evidence of the break-in which could hinder insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette sits inside the base of your door handle's backplate, providing a spring solution that returns your multipoint lock handles to their original position after using. There was a time when these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them and without this they tend to droop or drop once the locking mechanism is disengaged. Adding this simple component is among the most effective ways to fix this and it is also a great way to prevent your upvc doors from getting stuck in an open or closed position, as they aren't always simple to manually close by hand.
These spring cassettes were designed to be used with sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with handles that aren't sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a detailed diagram). These cassettes are a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They have a square cut out which can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and are sold as a set.
